Listed in Lysons (1806-1822) as one of a group of square baptismal fonts in the county that are "for the most part supported by four pillars and a large pedestal in the centre". Noted in Stabb (1908): "The octagonal font is of granite, the panels of the bowl being divided into arches." In Pevsner: "Octagonal, Norman, with, on each panel, two very shallow blank pointed arches (cf. Kingsbridge)." [NB: if pointed arches, why Norman? Pevsner suggests a 13th-century date for the similar font at Kingsbridge]
