The Bickleigh local authority site [www.bickleigh.gov.uk/about.htm] informs that the baptismal font in use in this church dates from 1589, but that another font was "unearthed in 1909" and is now displayed in the church next to the 16th-century font [cf. Index entry for Bickleigh No. 1 for the earlier font]. The 16th-century font is described in Spreat (1842): "The font [...] is a very fine one; it is an octagon with bevilled sides ornamented with carving, and having battlement work on the summit, the shaft and base are also carved, the whole is of granite, a most durable material, but extremely difficult to work with any nicety." Noted in Pevsner (1952): "Font. Perp[endicualr], octagonal, crenellated with large flat leaf patterns."
