Listed in Lysons (1806-1822) as one of a group of square baptismal fonts in the county that are "for the most part supported by four pillars and a large pedestal in the centre". Stabb (1908) mentions two fonts in this church, one: "Near the screen is preserved a font [...] said to be the one in which Charles Kingsley [Charles Kingsley [1819-1875), author of The Water Babies] was baptised, his father, at the time of his birth, being curate at Holne. It seems doubtful if this is really the old font belonging to the church, as for a long time that was missing from the church and another was in use." There is no mention of the font in Pevsner (1952) [cf. Index entry for Holne No. 2 for a base of a cross perhaps used as baptismal font in the 19th century in this church].
