Oliver (1840-1842) wrote of his visit to this church: "The Font is ancient, but begrimmed with plaster." Described and illustrated in Clarke (1913): "An excellent example of a bucket-shaped font, though it is much damaged, and the whole of the upper edge is broken away. There is band of chevron ornament about five inches from the bottom, not quite perfect. The ornament is in two sections, the chevrons reversed one from the other, making a star at the junction. The font rests directly on the ground, and evidently never had any kind of base." [NB: the ornament described in Clarke dould also be described as a braid going in two directions -- the font shows extensive damage, with several pieces cemented together, as well as a good part of it missing as indicated in Clarke]
