Font Notes:
Stackpoole and Westropp (1904) [https://www.themodernantiquarian.com/site/18147/killian] [accessed 17 August 2025] write about an object referred to as "Doughnambraher Font" or "Wart Stone"; their note seems to discard the possibility that it be a font at all Stackpoole "came to the conclusion that there might be a bullaun at the spot marked". Michael MacMahon's The Doughnambraher font: relic of an ancient ecclesiastical site?, in: The Other Clare vol. 8 (1984) p. 17-18, questions whether the relic may be that of an ancient ecclesiastical site. A set of photographs of the object may be found in the Clare County Library entry for Doughnambraher Bullaun Stone, Monument Number CL026-00303- [https://clarelibrary.fotoware.cloud/fotoweb/archives/5008-Archaeological-Monuments-of-Clare-Collection/?q=CL026-00303-] [accessed 17 August 2025]. The entry for this object in Clare Heritage [https://heritage.clareheritage.org/places/the-clare-cillin-survey/cillin-at-killian-templemaley] [accessed 17 August 2025] describes it thus: "a pockmarked bullaun stone, see photo to right. The hollow of this stone contains several smaller stones which folklore tells us are ‘cursing’ stones." The latter source gives a reference to an earlier one: "Ordnance Survey Letters, 1839: There is a deserted burying ground in the Townland of Cill Fiodhain (Killian), at which is an old baptismal font, said to have belonged to the Church that formally stood there’. Eugene Curry LSO (Cl) Leathanach: 121/48 ‘Doughnambraher Font’ by 1840’s map."
