The web site of the Parc Naturel Régional de la Forêt d'Orient [www.nature-aube.org] describes and illustrates the mid-16th century baptismal font at la Loge-aux-Chévres: the font was used for the first time for the baptism of the child of Jehan (VI) de Mesgrigny, a nobleman of Troyes, and Dame Marie de Pleure in 1559. The basin of the font carries four lion heads under the upper rim, and an inscription noting the event in between the lion heads; on the sides are the coats-of-arms of the Mesgrigny and the Pleurs (the lion head is the emblem of the Mesgrigny family). The lower side and underbowl of the basin are covered in a stylised ribbed pattern. The base is a cylindrical pedestal decorated with mouldings. [NB: it is likely that the font was donated by the mentioned families for the occasion]
