Identified in Layna Serrano (1948) as a baptismal font in the Plateresque [="plateresco"] style. Herrera Casado (1999) describes this font as "covarrubiesca" [i.e., Alonso de Covarrubias?]. On-site notes: baptismal font of the 16th century consisting of a shallow round basin raised on a complex base formed of an upper volume made up of foliage, garlands, drapery, etc., that arch out with a hollow inside, a short middle volume with folaige motifs, a narrow square plinth with decorative motifs, and, in between the last two, a tall torus-scotia-torus moulding combination. The outside of the bowl has a field of foliage as background for a row of winged cherub heads, but one of the heads is actually a cery naturalistically rendered skull. There is a significant amount of damage to the font: cracks and repairs all over, especially the basin itself, which was broken into three pieces and has been stapled together and reinforced with a metal bar in the upper rim.
