Listed in Suisse romane (1958) as a baptismal font of the Romanesque period. Marcionetti (1969) identifies shields and anchors on the sides of the font at Mariego; the anchor, writes Marcionetti (ibid.), is symbolic of "la certezza di Dio", that helps the Christian soul in its navigation through the rough seas of life, a symbol of the Hope, defined in St. Paul as the anchor of the soul. The font appears to be of a roughly rectangular shape, with large rounded bulges [presumably these are the 'shields'] on three of the sides; Marcionetti (ibid.) reports the front face of the basin "parzialmente compromessa", and his single illustration does not provide much more information. [NB: the mention of shields in Marcionetti' description (ibid.) raises a question on the dating of this sight-unseen font, since shields are not usually found in fonts of the Romanesque period].
