Noted in Buck (1951) as a group of circular fonts with moulded edges dating from the late 12th or early 13th century in the county of Wiltshire, at Barford St. Martin, Bower Chalke, Burcombe, Chilmark, Codford St. Mary [...], Monkton Deverill, Donhead St. Andrew, Teffont Magna. The Victoria County History (Wiltshire, vol. 13, 1987) notes: "There was apparently a church at Chilmark in the 12th century. [...] 12th-century north doorway [...] registers are complete from 1653." There is no font mentioned in the VCH entry for this parish. The baptismal font consists of a roughly hemispherical basin adorned with a moulding at the bottom of the underbowl and a curled lip at the upper rim; raised on a a plain cylindrical pedestal base and an octagonal-to-square lower base; the basin and pedestal appear to have been re-tooled; the lower base appears modern. Flat wooden font cover with inscription around the upper surface; modern.
