M. l'abbé Montel, in his monograph on the village (1925: 13), quotes the record of an inspection of the parish church of Saint-Jean, one of three in the village, made by M. l'abbé Pouméroulie, in the name of the Bishop of Limoges, on 13 July 1731. The record informs that the baptismal font of this church was in good working order, the holy water crystal clear and the holy oils properly kept in two little tin vessels. The baptismal regiistry books were also properly kept. The incumbent at the time was J. Roucoule, who led the parish from 1718 to 1741. [source: transcription of Montel's work in http://faure.roger.free.fr/vayres/autres/documents/monographie_abbe_montel.pdf] [cf. Index entry for Vayres No. 1 for a disappeared font from the parish of Saint-Georges in the same village]. The present font in the Saint-Jean church is illustrated in a digital photograph in https://roch-jaja.nursit.com/spip.php?rubrique370 [accessed 16 August 2025]: it consists of a roughly-hemispherical basin decorated with a broad stylised vine all around, raised on a plain circular pedestal base. The font cover is round, flat and plain, with a cross finial; modern; a statue on it appears to be an unrelated object.
