Font Notes:
M. l'abbé Montel, in his monograph on the village (1925: 4), mentions that this parish church, one of three in the village, was sacked during the early years of the Wars of Religion. In 1558, in the reign of Henri II, the church was broken into, its doors and windows destroyed, as was the baptismal font that existed in this church. Montel (ibid.) informs that the church still existed in 1560, but it was in complete ruins by 1628. In the 17th century the parish of Saint-Georges was attached to that of Saint-Jean [http://faure.roger.free.fr/vayres/autres/documents/monographie_abbe_montel.pdf] [cf. Index entry for Vayres No. 2 for the font at the parish of Saint-Jean in the same village]
