Font Notes:
A third item [two others listed in this Index for this church -- cf. entries for Viloria de Lana Nos. 1, 2, and another one, No. 3, in the same town in the Ermita de la Soledad] found in the church in September 2004 but not listed in either Domeño or the Catálogo Monumental de Navarra. This font appears earlier than the others, perhaps 12th or 13th century, and consists of a bucket-shaped basin decorated with a thick moulding on the underbowl; the shape is almost square with rounded angles rather than perfectly round; it is raised on a short cylindrical pedestal base ornamented with one protruding human head [it is quite possible that, originally, there may have been other heads, perhaps four, now broken off]; there is a lower base or plinth but it is now buried in the raised wooden flooring of the steps to the presbitery. This font appears crudely rendered; the upper basin has been heavily repaired at opposite ends, probably a damage resulting from the forceful removal of the staples of an old cover. [We are grateful to Javier Torrens, of Pamplona, Spain, for the photographs of this font].
