Font Notes:
The church at Holme-next-the-Sea has three baptismal fonts according to The Saxonshore Benefice; one of them is "a tall elegant font with marbke basin and stone pedestal [that] stands at the entrance to the nave. It was in use until 1885." The font consists of a very small vase-like basin raised on a round baluster-type pedestal with a moulded base and a minimalist octagonal plinth, as was fashionable in this period. The same source informs that the present font "was given by Mrs. Holley in memory of her husband, the Rev. John Holley in 1885." [source: www.saxonshorebenefice.fsnet.co.uk]. [cf. Index entry for Holme next the Sea No. 1 for an early basin also in the inner porch of the church -- the font currently in use is not included in this Index on account of its late date].
