Sutton (1904) writes: "Originally there were two churches in this parish, that of S. Peter was pulled down in 1593, when the living was consolidated with this one. The font which we have just passed in a garden is all that remains of the church." Pevsner, Harris and Antram (1989) located the font originally from St. Peter's at St. Denis': "octagonal [...] Perp[endicular], with tracery with much small crenellation." [cf.
