The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SE3298421281] notes: "Roman Catholic Church and attached Parish room. Built 1827-8, to the designs of Joseph Ireland, modified by William Puckrin, mason. Altered 1856 to the designs of Andrews and Delaney. Further alterations and additions 1878-80 to the designs of Joseph Hansom. Parish room added 1930 [...] Octagonal stone font". There are two fonts reported in the Catholic church of St. Austin: the one in use, located in the presbitery, right of the altar, is octagonal and made of wood, "rescued from the now disused building of St. Patrick's in Leeds"; the other font "stands in the baptistery behind a wooden rail. It has a wooden hinged top which can be removed for the ceremonies themselves, although this font is now out of regular use. The font has octagonal sides and four of these are decorated with religious images depicting angels and supernatural forms, carved out of the stone itself." The latter is claimed to be "much older" than the wooden font in use, although neither appears to be very old: the octagonal stone font is clearly Victorian at the earliest, which would make the wooden font font even later [NB: these two fonts are included here as a rare combination of fonts in a single church, especially with the wooden one being the one in use]
