Noted in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (Essex, 1916-1923): "Font: octagonal bowl with quatrefoiled panels enclsing blank shields, 15th-century, circular stem, probably earlier." The Victoria County History (Essex, vol. 5, 1966) writes: "The church of Nazeing was among the possessions of the canons of Waltham confirmed by Henry II in 1177. [...] The nave was built in the 12th century [...] In 1874 the church was restored. [...] The font has a 15th-century octagonal bowl and a 17th-century cover. The ciircular stem is probably older than the bowl." In Pevsner (1976) and in Bettley & Pevsner (2007): "Font. Perp[endicular], octagonal, with quatrefoils carrying shields. Font cover. Plain ogee-shaped with a finial; C17." Stocker (1997) mentions this font as integrating parts of earlier font(s?) The Church of St. Giles, Lower Nazeing, is modern.
