Blomenfield (1805-1810) quotes the Domesday entry for 'Bucham' (fol. 32), which contains neither church nor priest, and writes: "The Parish Church of St. Andrew, in Old-Bukenham, was a rectory belonging to the manor, till the foundation of the priory [...] The Church of All-Saints in Old Bukenham, is the present parish church; this was also a rectory appendant to the manor, and given by the founder to the priory, to which it was then appropriated, but no vicar endowed; it was served by the monks, who found a stipendiary curate there till the Dissolution". Blomefield (ibid.) gives the first recorded prior as 'William', in 1216. A font is noted in Pevsner & Wilson (1999): "Octagonal, C15 with shields and encircled quatrefoils alternating around the bowl. Plinth with heads and engaged columns." [NB: P&W must have meant 'base', not plinth, for the heads are at the angles of the underbowl, and the base is a cluster of colonettes with moulded capitals and bases]. Noted and llustrated in Knott (2006): "under the bowl there are eight grim little faces, each one different, and none of them looking particularly happy." [NB: we have no information on the font of the earlier churches here].
