The Parish web site [www.lancashirechurches.co.uk/Chipping...] displays a photograph of a font-like object: it appears monolithic and square of plan, the inner sides of the well tapering in rather than vertical; on the outside of the basin two parallel lines are incised all around the upper sides; several deep horizontal cuts have been made at about mid-height, also on the outside. [NB: wWe have no information whether or not this object is known to have a baptismal function, but the present [2006] vicar of Chipping, the Revd. Sue Williams, refers to it as "old Saxon font or plague stone" in the Parish' web site [www.chippingvillage.co.uk/village/stbarts.htm] [accessed 13 September 2006]]. Not mentioned in Hartwell & Pevsner (2009).
