Described in Blatch (1995): "The small octagonal marble font was given by Sir John Gayer [...] who was Lord Mayor in 1646. It has an ogee cover painted blue and gold with the City's arms." Allen (1839?) reports a resolution of 1414 by Richard Clifford, bishop of London, to a persistent problem between the Priory of Christ Church [now disappeared] and the 'parishoners of St. Catherine's, Christ's, or Cree-church"and the latter ''should have a baptismal font anew, set up in their church or chapel, for baptising of children'' [NB: was there a font acquired around that time? -- the Priory itself, which Allen (ibid.) describes as having been built in the reign of Henry I [1100-1135] has disappeared].
