In his Shropshire Baptist History, Edwin Green shows two illustrations [artist unknown] of the baptismal pool in the Rhual Estate, at Gwemaffield, built by Baptists in 1685. There have been claims that Vavasor Powell, leader of the Calvinistic Confession of Faith, one of the Puritan branches of the Baptists, was baptised in it in 1655, Green states that "this cannot be correct as that baptistry was not built until 1685."
