Medieval [cf. below] baptismal font consisting of an octagonal basin of short vertical sides and a long chamfered underbowl, both plain; there is a narrow area of carved decoration [saw-tooth?] just where the underbowl meets the roll moulding at the top of the stem; the stem itself is cylindrical and plain, with a roll moulding at either end; the lower base is circular and a little wider. The font is covered with a pyramidal lid, profusely carved, of octagonal base and a knob finial; it appears made of oak and probably of the 17th or 18th. [NB: the general appearance of the basin and the presence of the narrow band of carving at the lower underbowl gives the impression that it may have been re-tooled, perhaps to remove whatever decoration may have covered the side panels; either way, it may belong between the 13th and 15th centuries]. Pevsner (1967) notes: "Font. 1662. Small, octagonal bowl.-- Contemporary font cover with inscriptions." English Heritage [Listing NGR: NY5980922546] (1968) dates the church "C11 with later additions and alterations", but does not mention a font in it.
