Church Notes: The C of E website [www.achurchnearyou.com/toseland-st-michael/] [accessed 26 April 2012] gives the dedication as St. Michael's. Lewis' Dictionary of 1848 has church dedication as St. Mary's [p. 380 / www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=51351] a[[ccessed 26 April 2012]. So does the National Gazetteer of 1868 [cited in /www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/HUN/Toseland/ [accessed 26 April 2012]]
The Victoria County History (Huntingdon, vol. 2, 1932) notes: "The church, which is a chapelry to Great Paxton, was apparently entirely of mid-12th-century date [...] In 1873 it was thoroughly restored, and the chancel rebuilt." There is no mention of a font in the VCH entry, but the register of baptisms starts 9 December 1702, with all pre-1702 baptisms recorded in the registers at Great Paxton's church. The present baptismal font in this church consists of a cylindrical basin with a round underbowl, raised on a plain cylindrical pedestal base; flat and plain font cover, modern. [NB: the font appears to be an old one, perhaps 13th-century, re-cut and/or re-tooled at a late date -- otherwise the font is modern].
