Pevsner (1975 c1974) describes the baptismal font at All Saints' Grindon as "Norman, with one wavy band or ornament" and does not mention any other font, but the illustration of the font in the Grindon Parish web site shows an octagonal basin decorated with symbols within large quatrefoil windows, and raised on an octagonal pedestal, that is of a later date than the Norman font described in Pevsner et al. [cf. Index entry for Grindon No. 1 for the Norman font in this church] [image source: www.thornber.net]. An entry in the index of the William Salt Library, Stafford [www.staffordshire.gov.uk/live/pdf/archives/fis-lei.pdf] lists under reference SV IV.229: "Font in Grindon Church: sepia drawing (1847) / 'Font in Grindon Church.' showing an octagonal font with a moulded shaft. 'J.J.', [John Buckler.] 4 inches x 5 inches]". The font is as described above, octagonal of basin and base, the decoration on the sides of the basin not what one would expect on a 15th-century font: are they a later re-carving or is the font Victorian?.
