There are two entries for this Maltby [variant spelling] in the Domesday Survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SK5291/maltby/] [accessed 15 November 2018], neither of which mentions cleric or church in it. Morris (1932) writes: "Plain cup font." Baptismal font probably of the 13th or 14th century; the octagonal basin has plain vertical sides and a tall chamfer; it is raised on a prismatic pedestal, also octagonal and plain, and a round (?) lower base. Low pyramidal wooden cover, also octagonal, decorated with a knob finial.
