There are three entries for Blunham [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/TL1551/blunham/] [accessed 16 September 2015], none of which mention cleric or church in it. The Victoria County History (Bedford, vol. 3, 1912) notes: "Blunham Church belonged to John de Hastings, first Lord Abergavenny, [...] and at an inquisition held in 1313 after his death the advowson was valued at £20 yearly. [...] The earliest part of the church is the lower part of the tower, probably c. 1100 [...] The font, at the west end of the north aisle, has an octagonal bowl, possibly 15th-century work, on a modern base." Octagonal mounted baptismal font; the octagonal basin of vertical sides and rounded underbowl appears strangely plain, as if it had been re-tooled, and showing clear signs of restoration or repair; inner well lined with lead, the lining new; the basin is raised on a plain and short cylindrical shaft, and an octagonal lower base imitating the square cushion capital shape, both modern; octagonal plinth with kneeling stone. Wodden cover shaped with eight ribs joining at the finial, without central pivot.
