There is an entry for this Elton [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SO4570/elton/] [accessed 13 May 2018], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. The Inventory of Herefordshire (1931-1934, vol. III: 57) notes: "Font: plain cylindrical bowl, probably 12th-century, with modern stem and base." Noted and illustrated in the CRSBI (2018): "The font, at the W end of the nave on the S side, consists of an approximately cylindrical 12thc bowl on a short modern cylindrical stem with a small drum base and a step to the W. The W side of the bowl has been shaved to allow space for the celebrant on the tiny step. The bowl is unlined, and there is lock damage, repaired, at the E of the rim (the relevant part of the W rim has been shaved off)."
