No entry for Aylton found in the Domesday survey. The inventory of Herefordshire (1931-1934, vol. II: 8): "Font: hemispherical bowl with projecting rim, cylindrical built-up stem, possibly 17th-century, recut." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SO6584037666] reports: "Font, perhaps C17, with plain hemi-spherical bowl and projecting rim on columnar shaft and octagonal base." The entry for this church in Herefordshire Past [http://herefordshirepast.co.uk/churches/aylton-parish-church/] [accessed 13 May 2018] notes: "Font. The date is somewhat uncertain, but it is possibly Norman." The font consists of a small roughly hemispherical basin with a flat moulding around the upper side, otherwise plain; the tall cylindrical pedestal is made of four blocks cemented together and, like the octagonal plinth, a modern replacement. No cover present.
