Scene Description: Source caption: "The church appears wholly Victorian, by F.R. Kempson of 1863-4. His father was rector here. Inside its ancient origins are evident with a Norman chancel arch, a 13th century font and a fine but ill-fitting imported screen of around 1500."

There is an entry for Stoke [Lacy] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SO6249/stoke-lacy/] [accessed 2 August 2019] but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. The inventory of Herefordshire (1931-1934, vol. II: 174) notes: "Font: octagonal tapering bowl with moulded upper edge, 13th or 14th-century, base modern." The entry for this church in Historic England [List Entry Number: 1276172] notes: "Parish church of 1863 by F.R. Kempson, incorporating some fittings from a previous church. [...] The octagonal tapering tub font is medieval." The entry for this church in the CRSBI (2019) reports a mid-12th century chancel arch in it, "the only Romanesque feature."
