There is an entry for Grendon Bishop [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [www.domesdaybook.co.uk/herefordshire1.html] [accessed 7 December 2014] [details of the entry not available at present]. A font here is reported in the Post Office Directory of Herefordshire of 1863 [www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/HEF/GrendonBishop/PostOffice1863.html] [accessed 7 December 2014] Littlebury's Directory and Gazetteer of Herefordshire (1876-1877) [http://texts.wishful-thinking.org.uk/Littlebury1876/GrendonBishop.htm] [accessed 7 December 2014] reports a font in this church which had been re-built in 1788, and enlarged 1869-1870. Described in the inventory of Herefordshire (1931-1934, vol. II: 83): "Font: cylindrical, partly tapering bowl, now painted over, possibly 12th or 13th-century." English Heritage (1973), however, reports: "The church is of C12 origin, evidence for which is the re-set south tower window. [...] The round tub font is probably C18."
