There is an entry for Alcamestune [cf. infra] in folio 187r of the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/XX0000/alcamestune/] [accessed 18 May 2015], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. Marshall (1938) notes: "Alcamestune was probably Urishay, where there may have been later a motte and bailey". An object described in Herefordshire (1931-1934, vol. I: 211) as a "round stone mortar with lugs, set on modern stem", used as baptismal font in the past in the chapel of Urishay Castle. The English Heritage entry [Listing NGR: SO3229637611] (1949) reports " Fittings: nave retains C19 font base", but does not mention the old mortar. [NB: recent photographs of the chapel interior do not appear to include the 'font'].
