Font Notes:
There are two entries for Wootton [St Lawrence] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SU5953/wootton-st-lawrence/] [accessed 20 August 2018] neither of which mentions cleric or church in it. The Victoria County History (Hampshire, vol. 4, 1911) notes: "There was a church at Wootton St. Lawrence as early as 940 [...] There is no mention, however, of any church here in Domesday Book"; the VCH entry does not mention a font in this church. Two fonts found in this church: the baptismal font in use is in the Perpendicular style, although it may well be of Victorian date [perhaps ca. 1864, the date of the renovation of the church]; it period consists of an octagonal basin with vertical sides decorated with quatrefoil windows; octagonal pedestal base decorated with mouldings at top and bottom; raised on a square pedestal. Flat wooden cover, probably modern. [cf. Index entry for Wootton St. Lawrence No. 2 for another font in this same church]
