There is a multiple-place entry for [North] Otterington [ in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SE3689/north-otterington/] [accessed 28 November 2019] but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. The Catalogue of the Manuscript… of the British Museum (1844- ) lists a "Sketch, in pencil, of the octagonal stone font at North Otterington; drawn by S. H. Grimm; 10 1/12 in. x 7 1/2 in. [P. R. Kaye, v. 36]". Sheahan & Whellan (1857) report ''a very old Norman font, which belonged to the Church of South Otterington'' in this church. Glynne's 19 August 1869 visit to South Otterington [uses spelling 'Ottrington' St. Andrew's (in Butler, 2007) notes: "The church has been recently entirely rebuilt", and does not mention a font. Glynne's entry for his same-day visit to North Ottrington/Otterington does not mention a font either. Described in Bulmer's Directory (1890) as a plain Norman font originally from the old church in South Otterington; this font "was removed to St. Michael's, North Otterington, in 1846". The entry for this parish in the Victoria County History (York North Riding, vol. 1, 1914) notes: "Both the nave and chancel are of 12th-century date"; it mentions no font in it. [NB: South Otterington St. Andrew's received then an octagonal font, probably from the mid-19th century and therefore not included in this Index]. The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SE3626289699] notes: "Church. C12, C17 and C19 restoration"; it mentions no font in it.
