Font Notes:
There are four entries for Brafferton [variant spellings] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SE4370/brafferton/] [accessed 6 December 2019] one of which reports a priest, a church and "1.0 church lands" in it. Glynne in his 18 November 1863 visit (in Butler, 2007) reports: "The font has a circular bowl, with moulding round the lower part, on a circular stem." Described in Bulmer's Directory... (1890): "The font is ancient, but does not otherwise possess any special feature of interest." The entry for this parish in the Victoria County History (York North Riding, vol. 2, 1923) notes: "At the time of the Domesday Survey [...] there was a church on the king's land in Brafferton and a priest [...] None of the existing work in the church is of earlier date than the 15th century, to which period belong the chancel and the west tower. [...] The mediaeval nave was entirely removed in 1831 and the present structure built in its place, and the church has been restored in more modern times. [...] The font stands beneath the tower and has a modern stem and base and a 14th-century bowl with a moulded lower edge." The entry of this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SE4364670152] notes; "Church. C15 west tower, early C16 east chapels and chancel arcade. Nave and east wall of chancel rebuilt 1826-31. J P Pritchett. Restored 1878. [...] C14 font basin."
