The web site of the Mairie of La Douze, Dordogne [www.la-douze.com/eglise.htm] informs that the baptismal font of the parish church is actually a stem of a Gallo-Roman column decorated with rosettes and ancient figures. The roughly cylindrical object was overturned, so the carving now shows upside down [cf. Index entry for Melbury Bubb, England, for another case of an old object over-turned and re-used as a baptismal font]
