There are ten entries for Norwich [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/TG2308/norwich/] [accessed 13 October 2020], one of which records "22.7 churches. 2.57 church lands" in it; a separate entry records a priest and a church in it. Bell (1927) lists an undated water-colour drawing of this font by Miles Edmund Cotman in the Bulwer Collection. Noted in Pevsner & Wilson (1997): "Font. Octagonal, simple, with demi-figures of angels against the underside. Font cover. C17. With four columns, an openwork obelisk in the middle, and a tall top with an obelisk and a dove." Baptismal font of the 15th century, Perpendicular style. The octagonal basin has vertical sides, each panel decorated with a pair of cinquefoil windows; the arris between each panel has been flattened and carved with a very narrow cinquefoil arch or window; the lower side of the basin has protruding rectangular motifs; the angles of the chamfer are decorated [foliage? heads?]. There is a tall 17th-century wooden canopy mounted on the rim on the font; it rests on four slender colonnettes which support a roof-like octagon, above which is a rib-around-a-pivot structure similar to that found on Jacobean font covers; it ends in a finial consisting of a pointed obelisk with a dove atop.
