No entry found for West Stour in the Domesday survey. The entry for this parish in An Inventory of the Historical Monuments in Dorset, Volume 4, North (London, 1972) notes: "Font: comprises hexagonal stone bowl, hollow-chamfered below, on large centre shaft and six small corner shafts, on chamfered hexagonal base; probably of 13th-century origin, recut." Octagonal mounted baptismal font consists of an octagonal basin with vertical sides and chamfered underbowl, raised on a base made up of central cylindrical shaft and eight slender colonnettes, one at each angle of the basin; the colonnettes rest on an octagonal lower base. The font is located in the southwest corner of the nave. A flat wooden cover, modern and with metal reinforcements, covers the basin.
