No individual entry found for Pamber in the Domesday survey. The Victoria County History (Hampshire, vol. 4, 1911) shows a plan of the Priory church; the font appears at the southwest end of the presbitery. Described in the Hampshire county web site as a baptismal font of the 15th-century located in the church known as 'Pamber Priory' [source: www.hants.gov.uk/hampshiretreasures/vol02]. Holmes (1922) lists the font among "a few relics of this period" [i.e., the 12th century]. [cf. Index entry for Monk Sherborne No.1 for the baptismal font at All Saints']. The VCH (ibid.) entry for Pamber adds: "There is no record of the church used by the villagers of Pamber until 1564, in which year they complained that the Provost and Fellows of Queen's College, Oxford, who had succeeded to Sherborne Priory lands, had neglected to provide a minister [...] It was eventually arranged that the dwellers in Pamber should keep their tithes and profits to provide for a priest, and that the Provost and Fellows of Queen's College should give them leave to use the old Priory church. (fn. 66) The parish is still annexed to Sherborne for ecclesiastical purposes, and the parishioners use the priory church by permission of Queen's College." The entry for this priory church in Historic England [List entry Number: 1092954] notes: "A C15 font occupies the centre of the floor beneath the tower".
