There is an entry for this Langport [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/ST4226/langport/] [accessed 6 February 2018], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. Pevsner (1958) writes: "Octagonal, Perp[endicular], of the usual elements." The Langport Church web site informs that: "In 1589 the churchwardens sold the 'vawnte stone' [i.e., font] as it had been 'lyinge waste' in the churchyard. We can safely say that the present octagonal font dates from before this time, and its late mediaeval style would confirm this." [cf.
