Described and illustrated in the Catálogo arqueológico y artístico de la provincia de Sevilla (vol. IV (1955: pl. 391), a chalice-shaped baptismal font ornamented with human figures within an arcade. There is a digital image of the font that can be seen in Benalixa [https://benalixaguadalcanal.es/iglesia-de-sta-maria/] [accessed 2 August 2025] captioned: "Pila bautismal, de estilo mudéjar y fechable en el siglo XIV, cuyas caras exteriores se ornamentan a base de arcos de herradura apuntados." A further illustration of the font in the context of the chapel by José Prieto may be seen in Flickr [https://www.flickr.com/photos/eltb/3868101572/in/photostream/] [accessed 3 August 2025] [NB: neither of these images shows the human figures mentioned in the Catálogo [cf. supra]. A confusing reference to the font is made in a quote from Fernando Chueca Goitia sourced to the Boletín de la Real Academia de la Historia, Tomo CLXXXIII, Número III, Año 1986, pp. 524-525, which notes: "una pila bautismal muy tosca que posiblemente pudo ser de una iglesia anterior, pues las figuras que la decoran parecen propias del S. XVI, aunque se trate de un arte renacentista sumamente popular" [NB: Chueca Goitia mentions the font as being in the Iglesia de la Purísima Concepción de Guadalcanal]. The web site of the municipality [https://www.guadalcanal.es/es/turismo/monumentos-y-lugares-de-interes/iglesia-santa-maria-de-la-asuncion/] [accessed 3 August 2025] notes the presence of a Hispano-Roman capital re-purposed as a holy-water stoup: "La pila del agua bendita es un capitel romano del siglo II ó II" A view of the stoup can be found in the same source quoted above for the font [NB: no separate entry made in BSI]
