Described in No. 10 of the 'Autumnal Rambles about New Quay, County Clare' [source: www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/history/...]: "Opposite to the entrance the ancient baptismal font lies upon the ground, postrate and neglected. It is of rude workmanship; but, nevertheless, when one contemplates the religious use to which it was formerly dedicated, it excites some surprise that it is thus left here, instead of being removed to the present parish chapel". The font is not mentioned in Westropp report of his visit in 1895. This font lies on the ground near the "headache stone", a half arch remnant known to the locals as having therapeutic powers (one lies down on the ground and inserts one's head in the gap, after which the head aches and other ills will disappear -so the claims goes). [cf. Index entry for Oughtmama No. 1 for a very interesting stoup in this church]
