Reported in D'Alton's 'A History of County Dublin' (1838): "Entering this [the church], the stone the stone basin for holy water is seen, and near it a baptismal font, elevated on a pedestal, and bored at the bottom". The Journal of Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland (1914, vol. 44: 253) informs that, when, in 1783, Austin Cooper visited the site of the old church [which "was used until 1847, when the present church was opened"], he mentioned "two old stone fonts; on the edge of one were the letters W.B." [NB: if two 'fonts' were noticed in the old church, it is likely that the one bearing the inscription would be the baptismal font, and that the second 'font' was the holy-water stoup [Irish sources often use the term 'holy water font' for a stoup]]
