Described in Roe (1968: 124) as a "roughly cylindrical stone" with one of the sides somewhat flat, perhaps intended to fit against the wall; the top has been hollowed and there are "two small holes in the rim" which, Roe suggests, may indicate a former attachment for a cover" but, althgough "locally designated as a font, the work appears to represent a form of mortar in which pulse or other vegetable material might be brayed or pounded".
