Described in Roe (1968: 115) as a medieval baptismal font, of which only the octagonal flat-bottomed basin has been found among the ruins at Dunmoe Castle, although Roe (ibid.) does not reject the possibility that the missing stem and base be "concealed among the fallen debris of the building. The basin is described as "nicely made and well-proportioned", small in size, and "finished unusually by two receding courses of moulding instead of the more normal shallow chamfer"; there is also evidence of hinge marks for a cover on the rim. [NB: the BTM web site for Dunmoe Castle informs that "A drawing of 1795 shows it more or less intact", and that "The style of building suggests an early date but it was probably not built until the 15th century", which would make this font, if originally from the castle's chapel/church, datable to the 15th century]. The font appears listed in the "Archaeological Inventory of County Meath", and in APPENDIX II : HISTORICAL SITES AND MONUMENTS of the Navan Development Plan (map ref.: N -- SMR no.: ME025-038] of the Meat County Council & Navan Town Council]
