Church Notes: originally a 19thC(?) monastery church; present church built 12thC
Described in Castillo López (1987 c1972: 583): elegant baptismal font, ancient, originally from the 12th-century parish church at Sobrán, now [ca. 1972] kept in the Museo Lapidario de Santo Domingo, Pontevedra capital. The entry for this church in Alberto García Roldán's Galicia Pueblo a Pueblo [https://galiciapuebloapueblo.blogspot.com/p/pilas-de-agua-bendita-y-bautismales.html#] [accessed 30 December 2019] states that the font is now [?] in the Museo de Pontevedra. The font has a round basin, almost bucket-shaped, tapering to a very narrow bottom, raised on a short hexagonal base and lower base of the same shape; most of the surface of the font is decorated in geometric and foliage motifs; it is quite likely that the basin and base may be of different periods, the basin older. There is no cover present now but cover anchoring hardware still shows in the upper rim. There is a carved wall-mounted holy-water stoup of interest in the church, though obviously not of the original church [NB: a local contact, Alicia Padín Buceta, informed BSI that this stoup is probably 18th-century]
