Church Notes: first 'cenobio' perhaps 6thC; original church 9th-10thC, pre-Romanesque, with Mozarabic details
Described in Castillo López (1987 c1972: 329): baptismal font decorated with a blind arcade of Mozarabic arches ["arquitos de herradura"]. Despite Castillo López description of the arches as "arquitos de herradura" they are really crudely rendered and irreguler round arches around the roughly hemispherical basin; there are two metal staples in the upper rim, anchoring points for an old cover; the upper part of the stem is roughly cylindrical, and it is part of the basin block; it is raised on a short moulded base and a quadrangular lower base, both of which mat be later additions or replacements; there is a bluish hue around the upper rim but we do not know when it was put on the font [NB: the adverb 'roughly' repeated above represents this work, and, as warned by Francis Bond (1908), old age is often unwisely assigned to objects on account of its crude work. No cover present.
