Reported and illustrated by J. Graves as a baptismal font of the Norman period "formerly in the Parish Church of Kells, Co. Kilkenny", in the Journal of the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland (1864-1866, vol VIII: 483ff and ill. on p. opp. 491); the drawing shows a baptismal font consisting of a square cushion-capital shaped basin that appears plain except for a floral and foliage motif on the rising arrises from the underbowl, while the panels of the basin are plain; one of the sides, at the upper rim, shows an indentation that is consistent with the presence of a font cover and its hardware; the underbowl ends in a centre ring, a plain roll moulding. The base has two parts: the plain cylindrical stem that ends below in a roll moulding, and the square lower base that appears to have a decorative motif (?) on one of the corners. In Cahill ([1990?]: 238-239) after Graces.
