Baptismal font of the "Fröjelgruppen" [=Fröjel group"] of works exported from Gotland, described and illustrated in Berggren (2002: 160 pl. 16): polygonal -roughly hemispherical- basin decorated with a row of clover motifs all around the upper basin side; the sides are divided into panels, rather than arches, by vertical rope mouldings that end up near the rim in a leaf motif; each panel contains a fancily decorated animal: birds, lions, etc., so outlandish in their appearance they look like fabulous beasts. The base is of the type found in "Paradise fonts": made of two pieces, both octagonal but almost round, whereas the top centre ring and the bottom splayed end are clearly octagonal. Berggren (2002: p. 159) informs that there are thirty two "enigmatic fonts of the Fröjel type, named after the famous font in a small village church in southern Gotland." [cf. Index entry for Fröjel for the font after which the group is named].
