Thurlby (2006) has 'St Leonard' under Hinton Blewitt font illustration; Lewis' (1848) has 'All Saints' -- Crockford's gives the dedication of this church as 'St Margaret']. The church is dedicated to St. Margaret [confirmed in situ by John Wilkes, Feruary 2008]
Font Notes:
Theres is an entry for Hinton [Blewitt] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/ST5956/hinton-blewitt/] [accessed 5 February 2019] but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. Pevsner (1958) notes: "Norman, square, with one large scallop for each side. Top band of small lunettes." Described by Lord, in Diwylliant... (1998-2003), who dates it to the 12th century and points out the "fonts at Hinton Blewitt itself and at Castlemartin in Pembrokeshire are identical." [NB: they are actually not identical, as Castlemartin lacks the lower base ornamentation present in Hinton Blewett, for instance]. He actually suggests that the workshop that produced both fonts may have been located at Hinton Blewitt, in Avon. The font is therefore square, with a scallop motif decorating the upper basin side. Lord's illustration of the Castlemartin font shows a delicate double leaf filling the scallop motifs at the angles. Thurlby (2006) follows in Lord's path and notes the similarities in the treatment of the decorative elements on the fonts at Castlemartin, Chelwood and Hinton Blewett.
