Baptismal font from the parish church at Talavera la Vieja; the font was moved ca. 1963 to the Iglesia de los Santos Mártires in Talavera de la Reina when the old town was submerged under the waters of the Pantano de Valdecañas. The font, as it appears now, consists of three parts: a roughly hemispherical basin raised on a round pedestal base, both crude and rather irregular. The lower base is square and was perhaps not part of the original font. Two ceramic containers are placed in the well of the basin and are used for the rite now. [We are grateful to Manuel Trinidad of www.iespana.es/paseovirtual for his notes on and image of this font]
