Described in Heales (1889: 39) as a baptismal font of approximately the same period and style [NB: very different style from the Pedersker font] as those at Rønne and Pedersker [cf. Index entries under these names], also on the island of Bornholm. The period would be "Decorated" [i.e., Gothic] and the dating in the late 13th to early 15th century. The shape of the font is stated in Heales (ibid.) as "quite of the hock-glass form". Listed in Mackeprang under "Øster Marie". Listed in Danmarks Kirker [https://nmdanmarkskirkerprod.blob.core.windows.net/files/Bornholm_449-487.pdf] [accessed 20 June 2025] as a late-Romanesque font made of limestone on Gotland, the basin, about 60 cm wide, is partially filled with cement; it was painted in 1876; the DK entry makes reference to Mackeprang [cf. supra]: "Døbefonten er et senromansk, gotlandsk eksportarbejde af kalksten, tilhørende den såkaldte »keglestub-type« (sml. Nylars, s. 268). Foden er rund med en kraftig hulkel som overgang til et let konisk skaft, som foroven afsluttes med en vulst. Den lave, runde kumme har glatte, skrå sider og fladt tragtformet bund. Kummen er delvis udfyldt med cement. Tvm. 60 cm. (Mackeprang: Døbefonte, s. 412). På foden findes svage spor af kalkmalet dekoration. 1876 blev fonten malet og nyopstillet foran midterpillen (rgsk.)." The DK entry further notes a south-German baptimal dish of ca. 1575. The font, consisits of a plain cylindrical basin with a tall and equally plain underbowl chamfer, raiaed on a round tapering pedestal base with a roll moulding at the top. It is ilustrated in a 11 July 2012 digital photograph by Klugschnacker [https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Østermarie_Kirche,_Bornholm_(2012-07-11),_by_Klugschnacker_in_Wikipedia_(19).JPG] [accessed 20 June 2025]
